North Cyprus Driving Tips

The below tips are provided to help you enjoy a safe visit and safe driving for you and your family after hiring your car whilst in North Cyprus.

Make sure you know where you are going. You will usually be able to obtain a small map from the car hire company and they may be able to give you directions to get you started in the right direction. Ask for it when you do your reservation.

In North Cyprus the minimum car rental age is 25 and a valid driving license or an international permit is required. Don't forget, only the approved person(s) at the time of rental can drive the car.

Driving is on the left with the majority of hire cars being right hand drive and the trafic signs are international.

The wearing of satbelts in the front of the vehicle is law in North Cyprus.

Alchol should be avoided when driving. Please don't endanger your life or that of others, if you are going to drink, please don't drive!

Always make sure you have sufficient fuel as petrol stations can be few and far between especially in North Cyprus villages.

The speed restrictions are shown in kilometers, watch your speed, as the police have roadside checks. Also remember you are on holiday not rushing to work.

If you are the driver, make sure you carry your driving licence and car rental documents with you at all times. You may be asked to show your documents on the spot by a Police officer.

Especially in summer periods keep your windows closed if you have an air conditioner in the car you hired as this helps your air conditioning to work properly so that you stay cool and it also keeps bugs out of the car.

Make sure that you follow the instructions on your rental agreement and inform your car rental company if you have an accident.

Don't leave valuables, jackets, etc in the car interior or maps. Make sure that you put these in the boot (trunk) of your car. Don't leave your camera in your car in summer as the heat inside may have ruined your film. Never leave kids alone in the car.

Have a SAFE DRIVE!!!
